Riyadh-based Nick O’Connell is a Partner and Head of Al Tamimi’s “Digital & Data” (Technology, Media & Telecommunications) team in Saudi Arabia. Nick has been with Al Tamimi for about 15 years, initially specialising in Intellectual Property, but for most of his time with the firm as a key member of the firm’s TMT practice.  

Nick is one of the leading specialists advising on data protection matters in the Middle East. He is the author of the UAE chapter on Data Protection & Privacy, 3rd Edition (the Sweet & Maxwell International Series), and he has contributed to Proskauer on Privacy for both Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Nick is a certified information privacy professional / GDPR specialist (CIPP/E).

Besides data protection matters, Nick’s broad practice area includes technology transactions (including procurement, software licensing, consultancy services and outsourcing), information security, e-commerce, media production and advertising, technology and intellectual property aspects of corporate and commercial transactions, and telecommunications. 

Nick is admitted as a solicitor in New Zealand, Australia (NSW) and England & Wales.
